In the second week of January 2012, the alumni of ISBI visited the community of St. Cecilia in Kiambiu and donated food stuff to a number of families. Among the families was a lady who had not eaten for two days. She is a single mother of two and washes clothes around her neighbourhood to earn a living. In spite of all the difficulties, the families show a profound trust in the providence of God.

A visit to the poor was done in Kiambiu on the 11th of January 2012. The students and staff of Eastlands Centre were able to give foodstuffs to fifty needy families, most of whom live in single rooms and rely on odd jobs to cater for the needs of their family as most of them are unemployed. Ms Martha Wanza has a four-year-old son who was supposed to start school this year but could not since she did not have enough money to buy his school uniform. She has two other children who are in primary school (one in Class 3 and the other in Class 7). Despite the burden she has of providing for her children, she is optimistic that God will help her.

One of the visits recently done was in Mukuru, close to the place where the recent tragic fire occurred – along the Kenya pipeline. The lady visited was a single mother with eight children, three of whom are adopted. Her brother was affected by the fire and was hospitalized in Kenyatta National Hospital. Her small business of selling peanuts has come to a stop after the fire incidence. She now depends on well-wishers to feed her family.
